2010 PREP BOYS VOLLEYBALL: Valley League Overview

1. Mt. Carmel ---- The Sundevils followed up a perfect league season (10-0) by repeating as CIF San Diego Section Division II champions last year. Senior MH Jamie Ferguson returns after being named Valley League Player of the year, and the Sundevils will also rely again on senior OH Nick England and senior S Connor Mortland ---- All-Valley League first-team selections last season. Eleven of the 13 players are seniors, including L/DS Stephen Lawrance and OH Dylan Reeder.

2. Valley Center ---- Coach Alan Dale has his son, senior S Jared Dale, returning as a four-year starter. The Jaguars' two league losses last season came against CIF Division II champion Mt. Carmel. Valley Center advanced to the CIF Division IV semifinals before being eliminated by St. Augustine. Six-foot-5 senior MB Jake Lane is back for another playoff push. Junior S Beau Reilly moves to the hardwood after quarterbacking the Jags football team last fall, and Valley Center will also rely on senior OH Steven Konyn.

3. Ramona ---- The Bulldogs lost five senior starters from last year's squad, but sophomore Garrett Adelman returns as one of the top setters in the league. Senior OPP Ian Nowakowski returns to help run the offense. Juniors Billy White and Luis Nunez bring potential to outside hitter.

4. San Marcos ---- The Knights qualified for the CIF Division III playoffs last year, losing to Canyon Crest in an epic five-game quarterfinal battle that was decided by a 15-13 fifth game. Senior S/OH Carson Moore is expected to lead this year's charge after being named to the All-Valley League second team in 2009.

5. Orange Glen ---- The Patriots managed a .500 record overall (16-16) and qualified for the CIF Division II playoffs, where they lost in the first round to Bonita Vista. Orange Glen hopes to make another run behind a group of seniors that includes OH Thomas Bickford, L Eric Cruz, S Willy Lopez, OPP Steven Hampton and DS Eddie Castillo.
